Long Term Causes
Several things contributed to the Civil War although three specific sections caused anger between South and North leading up to the war, economic, political, and social. Economic causes were based on the job competition for immigrants and the differing economies of the North and South. In the North there was very industrial and advanced while the South was very agricultural based and mainly on slave labor. Next was Political causes, the Fugitive slave act, Dred Scott decision, and KS-NE decision resulted in a growth of sectionalism between these two regions. Many Northerners grew angry over the fugitive slave act allowing southerners to retrieve their once freed slave, also the Kansas-Nebraska Act pleased Southerners but further enraged the North because it caused them to lose another free state. Lastly Social causes, Slave Labor was the main reason for the cause behind the war, South wanted slaves, to help them grow their economy and have free labor, while the North despised of this and didn't believe in having or using slaves for profit. Uncle Tom's cabin not only helped people learn more in depth about slavery, but it hurt the Southerners because it should people a glimpse of how slaves were truly being treated in harsh environments

Triggering Events
Lincoln was elected in 1860 and triggered the Civil War. At this same time the Confederate States of America had formed and elected Jefferson Davis to be its president. The two men getting elected led to the Battle of Fort Sumter, first battle of the civil war, where Jefferson attacked the Fort in attempt to capture it, before Lincoln could send help.
